Description
The Hive empowers Butte Fire survivors through advocacy to fulfill immediate and long term needs in all areas of life.
Empowerment and Advocacy in all areas of life
Empowering Butte Fire Families to reclaim and rebuild their lives is the mission of The Hive: A Butte Fire Recovery Center. To accomplish this goal we will relieve stress through advocacy, guidance, and promotion of coping skills. We will help them meet basic needs in all areas of living, identify long term goals, and help them achieve those goals. We will provide for these needs on an individual basis.
Butte Fire Survivor Advocates
We are a diverse group of volunteers and advocates who believe that providing for needs will reduce the stress of recovering from loss, and will empower the survivors to rebuild and improve their lives in the long term.
We are a non-profit, 501(C)(3) organization.
&8203The Butte Fire burned more than 70,000 acres in Calaveras county (approximately 11% below poverty line.) More than 1,000 people lost their homes and everything they owned. The rural areas that burned were mostly uninsurable due to geography, or only insurable at rates beyond reasonable for the average wage earner (among the highest unemployment rates in the state.)
