Covering California's Gold Country

doPlaces covers three counties in California: Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne. These counties are part of California's western Sierra-Nevada Mountain Range, central part of the "Gold Country" or "Mother Lode" area. About 125 Miles East of the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area.

There is plenty to do here; places to visit, stores to shop, groups to join, and services available - all we need is good way to list and find it all - and here it is.

You will find local businesses, services, transportation, sports, recreation, parks, camp grounds, trails, food, dining, wineries, museums, galleries, churches, clubs, groups, points of interest, equestrian and pet friendly spots, lodging, shows, workshops, classes, meetings, sales, notices for competition entries, fund-raisers, advance tickets, class enrolment, and much more!

All easy to use and understand - from your computer right down to your smart phone's web browser. Schedules for events, groups and businesses are listed, so if a business has hours, you will see if they are open or not and events/meetings that are happening today or sometime in the future.

(note: always call to verify hours on holidays, computers aren't that smart, and things change)

Locally Made for Locals

This is not some big national me-too thing, this site is created, written, and maintained locally by Larry Anderson and lists only local stuff (except for some public services that just aren't available locally). No annoying out-of-the-area distractions.

Why Did I Make It?

• I've wanted to use something like this, no one else seemed to be doing it quite right
  
• Because I could - and creating stuff yourself a great way to learn!
  
• I needed something to show off my database, web development and design abilities

What's Next?

Part of the inspiration for doPlaces was a method to explore how to better present activities and places as well as build interest, community and interaction. So expect to see more interactivity coming to doPlaces, as well as expanded content.
